THING-02: Clay Ring

Clay Ring Another clay project!  I spent about an hour yesterday going up and down every aisle at Hobby Lobby looking for some kind of ring gauge.  All I could find is a mandril for different jump rings. I finally came across a mortar & pestle that did the trick.  Sculpey has come out with different colors of clay for 99 cents!  I pounced on the red.  I could make a bunch of rings with it!  FOR 99 CENTS.  The first ring I made had no support.  I let it cool down after baking, but it still broke.   The next one I made had wire wrapped around the pestle before the clay.  It feels super sturdy.  I used red nail as glaze on the outside.
Comments appreciated.  =)

Clay Tree Wall Mount Painted

My tree wall mount has been painted! It was raining off and on today, but that didn't stop me.

This will be my first contribution to 2011's "Thing-a-Day". Thing-a-day is a collective creative blog that lives for one month every February. Participants commit to create new things every day and share them with the rest of the group. Feel free to check out the link to see what 500+ people are doing this February.

Clay Tree Wall Mount

This is the tree I was talking about in a previous post.  I've been wanting some hooks in the kitchen on the side of the cabinets near the sink since I'm used to the measuring cups hanging there. But, who wants boring white hooks when you can make something unique?

It is made with a mixture of original white Super Sculpey and black Sculpey III.  It's fairly thin, so it may break if dropped.  I plan to attach it to the wall pretty well though.  I covered it with some wood glue and sanded it down.  It's probably going to need a lot more sanding and some paint.  More pics will be posted upon completion!
